You made a guess and the wait is over! Do you remember? Each year, our Morals & Machines Prize will honor one person, who significantly impacts the field of responsible technology. And today we proudly announce the winner of the first M&M Prize: Dr. Joy Buolamwini!
Dr. Joy Buolamwini is a computer scientist and poet of code who uses art and research to illuminate the social implications of artificial intelligence. Her groundbreaking thesis shone the spotlight on race and gender bias in AI services from top tech firms worldwide, which caused many players in Big Tech to reevaluate the role of their facial recognition systems in law enforcement.
